The Pohnpei Budget Office is created by State Law S.L.NO. 2L-87-81 and its main responsibility is the preparation for Governor’s review and approval and presentation to the Legislature a complete financial plan for the Pohnpei State Government for the next two fiscal years.

After number of amendments to the above law, current requirements are:

a) Budget Officer  working through the Office of the Governor, issues Budget Call (request for department and offices budget plan for the coming fiscal year) by November 15 of each year to departments, offices and the two other branches of Pohnpei State Government.

b) The Budget Officer, working with the Planning Budget Implementation committee (PBIC),  consolidate and submit through the Office of the Governor a proposed fiscal year consolidated budget to Legislature by January 15 of each year. The Pohnpei Legislature has until the first week of May to enact the Budget Transmittal Act (BTA) and it is forwarded to the National Office of SBOC by May 15, of each year.
